Quilting cotton makes great handbags and zip pouches! I’m partial to Amy Butler patterns, as you can see.

Handbags

The Cosmo Bag:

Amy B "Cosmo" bag

Most of Amy B’s bags are oversized, but this one is huge! I reduced the pattern pieces on the photocopier to make this a more usable size for me. Details are on my old blog, here.

Birdie Slings

two Birdie Sling bags

XMas gifts for my sisters a couple of years ago. Never did get around to making one for myself. This is a more beginner-friendly pattern than the Cosmo bag. Details on my old blog, here.

Zip Pouches

Origami Bags

This great design is in Amy’s Style Stitches book, which includes a range of sizes… some of mine are wider, narrower, taller, or shallower than the original dimensions… it’s an easy design to customize!

I use these around the house, in my purse; they are great for traveling and make terrific gifts.

mid-sized Amy Butler "origami" bags

Best of all, they don’t take much fabric, so are a terrific way to make something gorgeous from your favorite fabric scraps.

mid-sized "origami" bags

Big thumbs-up for this pattern, which is beginner-appropriate. It’s worth the price of the “Style Stitches” book just to make up a bunch of these super-organizers in various sizes:
