Just in time for the holidays:

A fun little pillow that looks like a gift-wrapped package, which makes it perfect for gift-giving!

The “boudoir” size (12″ x 16″), which has the pattern on both front and back, in reversed colors, is made from just 2 fat quarters! Or use a plain fabric back and get two pillows from your FQs! I bet you’ve got the perfect fabrics in your stash, if they aren’t already out on your sewing table. (You have been doing some holiday sewing, right?)

Experienced quilters might recognize the roots of this design in the traditional block called “Sister’s Choice”. It’s one of my favorites. One day a while back I was playing around with a two-color version and realized that — with the lights and darks in the right place — it looked a little like a bow.

After more playing around and a bunch of quilt math, I had an expanded block that looked even more like a package tied with ribbon and bow. I whipped up a quickie test version to re-cover the pillow that lives on my deck chair:

It was an easy sew,, and while putting it together I realized there was a way to simplify the construction even more. More quilt math and another few test versions later, and I was ready to write it up.

I’ve created a PDF pattern, including details on how to cut your FQs to get all the right size pieces from two 18″x21″ pieces of fabric. Sewing it together is a breeze; step-by-step diagrams and written instructions show you exactly how to do that, too. I even provide suggestions for quick and easy quilting.

Happy holidays, everyone!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got more sewing and writing to do, as an expanded version of this pattern (square pillows! a baby quilt!) is in the works…

Is the pattern supposed to come as an attachment in the email?

When you click “submit” the pattern download page opens automatically.
I’ll send you a copy of the PDF by email, since that didn’t seem to work for you.

Great idea! Such beautiful colors in your pillows – as always :) And now I really feel like I’m kind of a big deal since I’m on your “VIP list”! Congratulations!

Thanks, Trena! So far the pillows are the only holiday decor around here. Hubs brought the tree-in-a-box up from downstairs storage two days ago, but it’s not out of the box yet.

Thank you so much for sharing your pattern – It is wonderful. Ive just printed it off, all I need now is some spare time to make it. In fact I wish I’d had it a week ago it would make really nice christmas presents! Still I can get ahead of the game for next year! Merry Christmas!!

You’re welcome Sarah; I wish I’d gotten the pattern done a little sooner, too… just didn’t happen this year.
Happy sewing!
