Post image for The last batch (for now), promise!

This one started out as a self-challenge to use an FQ of the ugliest color I have ever encountered: a dark mauve that came in a purple Kona FQ assortment and that appeared at first glance to be utterly unusable. I didn’t use much of it, and the (Kaffe? Philip Jacobs?) floral print steals the show, but still, I love, love, love how this turned out.

The star points are Kaffe Collective also,as is the in-your-face orange mattress-ticking stripe. A little of that goes a long way, too, and I might have pushed my luck using it as the binding also. The green border is a pieced stripe made from small remains of three different, very close green, FQs. Worth the extra work, IMO.

And how gorgeous is this Joel Dewberry print on the back?

I think one reason I love making these pillow covers so much is the opportunity to use a wide range of stunning home dec prints for the backs!

This big one (20″) is in the Etsy shop here. If it hasn’t sold by the time the listing expires I might have to keep it, even though it goes with nothing else in my house.

This next pillow (another 20″) is very dear to my heart, and also a total mismatch with my decor, the only reason I’m giving someone else a chance at it (here). This is the BoM from March, turned on point and exuberantly framed with a sawtooth strip and a wild combo of batiks, Kaffes, and some Amy Butler mod brights.

You don’t get this kind of effect working from “collection” precuts, folks. It takes a random, wild-abandon approach to stash building (and recombining) to deliverĀ  this:

The color scheme is the serendipitious combination of the last of that pretty floral, plus a strip of extra backing fabric, all jumbled up with other odds and ends on the sewing table as I was rummaging for something to put together the March block with. It turned out sort of boho-southwestern, so I’m calling it “Desert Rhapsody.”

It’s a bit pricey for a pillow cover, but a lot of hours went into it, and it’s too pretty to sell for less that it’s worth.

This last one is my version of the April BoM block, and has already been snapped up from Etsy:

It’s spiral quilted, my favorite pillow treatment:

I have more of the carp/koi print, and look forward to playing with it again.

And that’s it for now. I’ll try not to deluge you with pillow pics for another week or two at least, although there is one more new one in the works (and a few more BoM blocks I’ve not done anything with yet).

BTW: I recently installed a comments plug-in that sends you an email when I post a comment reply here on the blog. I’ve not yet figured out how to have that email sent from “Venus de Hilo” rather than the default bluehost address, so there’s a chance those are ending up in your junk folders.

Your autumn star pillow cover is beautiful! The stripe used in 2 places is perfect! The Philip Jacobs floral in that colorway was my least favorite and now I see all it needs is the right companions to make it beautiful.

The floral isn’t a typical colorway for me either, which is what made the challenge fun. I do love that PJ floral, even though the colors don’t play well with my stash.

These are stunning! I really love the colors in the first one. The piecing and quilting in the second are fabulous. The koi and the way you used it in the third are great. Beautiful. You have such great talent and style.
