Post image for More NYB blocks

This weekend I finally got two more NYB blocks done for my “summer” quilt. Progress has slowed, but I am determined to maintain some tiny increment of momentum on this project. That’s block 8, above, and #9 is another rendition of the same foundation:

Nine blocks seems like a nice number for a mosaic. Here’s what’s done so far:

9 New York Beauty blocks

Oooh, so pretty: only 27 more blocks to go!

Good thing I’m not aiming to get it finished this summer.

And look what just came out of the dryer:

quilted blocks for pillowsSix more large blocks, quilted and washed and soft and cuddly… these will get sewn up into more pillow covers for the Etsy shop. Most likely not until next weekend, or later. Getting them to this stage feels like enough progress for now… desk work calls.

Your NYBs are gorgeous! I love the cool serene palette. Can’t wait to see more blocks.

Your color sense and fabric choices never seem to fail.
There will be many summers to enjoy the completed NYB.
And the items in your Etsy shop are beautiful.

I’ve been admiring all of your NYB blocks for some time. I want to make one of my own and can’t keep coming back to these #8 and 9′s of yours. Fabulous. I looked at all the blocks of the NYB sew-along and none of those seem to be your pattern. Did you get it from there? Or where from? Thanks! :)

Hi April, my numbers are different from the Sew Along (I’m just counting ‘em up as I go). I think you are asking about “Block 1″ from the Sew Along (which is not Week 1 of the Sew Along, as they used the original block templates out of order). The Sew Along tutorial for that one is at: http://www.canoeridgecreations.com/2012/03/new-your-beauty-quilt-along-block-1.html

Keep in mind that the sew along makes 8″ blocks. I have enlarged all the templates and am making 12″ blocks, so the scale of mine is different, and the larger pieces give the prints I’m using more room to shine.

I’d better get back to work on these: this post is from a month ago and I haven’t made any new ones yet. (I haven’t finished any of those pillow covers, either.)
