The only thing on my design wall today is this Improvi-Robin WIP which I have just received from Quiltiverse and done nothing to yet. Since a shot of someone else’s (in this case, two prior someones’) work doesn’t show you what I’ve been up to, here’s what I just took down so the Improvi-Robin work could go up:
Those of you who are playing along with Jackie’s Block of the Month will recognize the February block from Diary of a Quilter, done up in composite in purple and gold. It would be greatly improved, IMO, by the addition of a sawtooth border all the way around, but I don’t like my version enough to make and assemble that many little HSTs. I’m doing alright keeping up with the blocks for this sew-along, but my personal challenge to create a pillow each month is adding up to a pile of pillow UFOs. The day may come when I feel the urge to catch up, but today is not that day. This one is already in a bin.
The pieced diamonds may look familiar, too. They are an adaptation of a pattern in this wonderful book, and are in the process of becoming another quilted jacket. This one is for me. My mother burst out laughing when I told her I’d signed up for a jacket-making class at my LQS. I hadn’t planned to, and don’t need the instruction, but I do want to make myself a jacket. Without the class, years will go by and I still won’t have started on it. With the class, I’ve filled out the garment pieces, and have quilted the sleeves, which now look like this:
The best thing about the class, for me, is getting out of the house to hang out with other quilters for a few hours a week. There are a couple of active quilting groups on the Big Island, but none in Hilo, so a class makes a nice change to sewing alone at home. If I want a local group to hang with — which I do — it looks like I may have to start one of my own. Add that to the “someday” pile.
The little framed bird is still up there, too. I’ve decided what’s going to happen next to it, but haven’t found the time to work on it. Maybe it will look different by the time April 1 rolls around?

I love the fabrics (batiks?) you used in all your projects. Brings out the life in the project for sure.
I still need to do my BOM block. I don’t want to fall behind!!!
If those are the sleeves to the jacket, then you are going to have a fabulous jacket when it is finished.
Living on a small piece of earth isn’t easy. We are only two that do quiling here, although we heard rumors of a guild somewhere on the Island. Haven’t found them yet…
